bioinformatics, genomes, biology etc. "I don't mean to sound angry and cynical, but I am, so that's how it comes across"

Scientific Shakespeare

Following on from Nick and Ewan’s paper in Nature, and Ed Yong’s blog about it, here is Scientific Shakespeare:

Shall I compare thee to another protein?
Thou art slightly longer and more folded
Substitutions do alter your beta-sheets
And summer’s temperature doth denature you
Sometimes too unstable the binding site
And often is his Ligand absent
And every amino acid is present once
By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimmed;
But thy eternal structure looks the same,
As the one possessed by that other species,
Nor shall pH alter your free energy,
When in vitro I do treat thee,
So long as men can predict structure,
So long lives Rasmol, and we give life to thee

More than anything else, this probably shows how little I know about protein biology and Shakespeare πŸ™‚
